Daymon Wayans nervous and Harry Potter dying
Lastly, its nice to hear that even entertainers get nervous meeting other entertainers. I’m speaking about the talented Mr. Damon Wayans on his hosting of the BET Awards. While Mr. Wayans is no slouch (I really liked his role in The Last Boy Scout and his work on My Wife and Kids), and hardly unfamiliar with being around successful entertainers (he is part of the Wayans family after all and he helped find/create Mr. Jim Carrey and Mr. Jaime Foxx) it’s refreshing to hear he too is like a fan when faced meeting the likes of Mr. Michael Jordan and Prince. I rarely envy the opportunities others have, and few entertainers leave me speachless in meeting them (I have met several over the years), but I do know that there are a few that I too would stutter upon meeting.
One thing that I find interesting and hopeful is the small comment on some of the Wayan’s getting together to create a movie studio. I for one look forward to that. Not because I want more films like the upcoming Little Man or the now somewhat over done Scary Movie franchise, but because it would be the first Black African American-owned movie studio. Or at least the first I have ever heard of. And if it were to happen, located near Oakland I can only hope that there would be an influx of Black African Amemerican, Hispanic and other minority figures involved in the behind the scenes activities, as well as in front of the camera. It’s about time that non-whites got a chance to work behind and in front of the camera, in significant positions. For those that are unaware, the percentage of non-whites working behind the camera is estimated at 5% or less. I would dare say that Mr. Spike Lee and Mr. John Singleton, et al., are not the exceptions but the rule. Given an opportunity to showcase more individuals I can be proven right or wrong, and I would love the chance for either as it means more are there working. We will see what happens, and I hope it does happen.
This is what I think, what do you think?
