World Cup: Brazil vs Chile – final

By Michael Vass | June 28, 2010

What did you expect? I expected a 3 – 1 match, as I said in the half report. Missed it by 1.

Brazil took everything that Chile had and then some. Chile made several attempts, that likely would have had an effect on a team lesser than Brazil. But it must be said that the shots from Bastos and Nilmar could have easily made the match a 5 – 0, except for the pressure of Chile and good workl by #1 Claudio Bravo.

Frustration seeped into Chile’s game as #2 Ismael Fuentes, #8 Arturo Vidal, and #20 Rodrigo Millar all picked up yellow cards. As for Brazil, #18 Ramires made a mistake of youth in drawing his yellow card for no reason – as Brazil was in no danger.

There just isn’t much to say about the second half. Brazil dominated the possession, had better passing, and encircled Chilean players on the attack. This was no blow out match, Chile can hold their heads high. But Brazil did everything that everyone expected, and feared they could do.

The Netherlands will gain little from any video of the match. This is essentially the same game that Brazil has long played. The Netherlands will be at a severe disadvantage to the speed and passing ability of Brazil.

Brazil will be in the quarter-finals and all odds look towards a 2 – 0 (maybe 3 – 2) match in their favor. The semis should be interesting with them in it.
