Odds are for celebrity justice in Paris Hilton case

By Michael Vass | September 1, 2010

I hate to say it, but the odds favor Paris Hilton walking away from her recent Las Vegas drug bust with little more than a slap on the wrist. IF the odds are accurate, Hilton will flaunt the legal system again and prove that fame and money are more important than substance, honor and integrity.

According to the latest odds from YouWager.com :

What will happen next in Paris Hilton legal drama?

The judge will drop the charges 50%

She will be sentenced to less than 30 days in jail 75%

She will be in the same prison as Nathan Lee P 18%

She will admit it is all a publicity stunt 9%

It’s truly a shame when people are willing to put their money on the line with such assurance that the legal system is broken to such a degree. The fact that Hilton, who has no talent or benefit greater than having been born into wealth, is expected so overwhelmingly to escape justice is a telling view of our society.

Keep in mind that were this anyone but a celebrity (and that term is being used in it’s most loose form when applied to Hilton) there is no question that Federal mandates would be applied. If this were a Black or Hispanic women, rest assured that the harshest degree of the law would be applied – as reports and statistics have shown for decades is the case.

Perhaps it would not be such an abomination of the law if Paris Hilton did anything. If she had any redeeming quality. But apparently beyond being rich there is none.

Considering the billions (or millions if certain charity works by her grandfather hold up in court) she stands to inherit, she is barely chritiable. There are sites that note a long list of organizations and causes she supports; but other than $100 for a homeless man and $100,000 to a hospital there is nothing known in the past several years, even at these same sites. In effect she is hollow, presenting a shell of concern while doing nothing substantive – which matches every other aspect of her very public life.

I stand corrected. I forgot to mention the £334 for Starlight Children’s Foundation (roughly little more than $500 for the year prior) that Hilton gave reported on Jan 2010.

Given her attitudes for the law, her lack of talent, her miserly charitable actions, and a desperate need for constant media attention, what in the world makes her a celebrity? And what in the world makes her deserving of the odds, that likely will come true, on having celebrity justice enacted in her favor?
