I believe a person's character can be found in their answer to this question: If you could go back in time to the begining of Civilization with 3 books, which 3 would you choose?

Another attempt to explain UFO's - badly

Over the years I have heard many things about UFO’s. I have heard they are impossible, imaginary, absolutely mathematically probable, a fact, and logical. I have listened to the Government, and others around the world, deny the existence of anything beyond Earth and also admit that there are events beyond explanation.

But of all the things I have heard to deny the existence of UFO’s the worst has to be the latest answer, Natural Explanation Found for UFOs. This has to be the least honest excuse I can recall being stated in my lifetime.

Photo from http://www.space.com/php/multimedia/imagedisplay/img_display.php?pic=090223-ilan-sprite-02.jpg&cap=The+appearance+of+a+%22sprite%22+(about+30+miles+high+by+30+miles+wide)%2C+flashing+above+a+distant+thunderstorm.+The+%22sprite%22+is+about+175-250+miles+awa

Now while that is a cool effect of nature, does it seem otherworldly to anyone? Does it seem to be moving anywhere? And when I say moving I mean laterally, or in intricate turns, for extended periods of time. Lightning, even ball lightning or sprites do not do that. Better yet, how about remaining completely stationary, 500 feet above Phoenix, without a lightning storm?

10,000 people are sure they did not see flares or sprites or any man-made phenomenon. From dozens of angles and video cameras and people of all walks of life came a clear statement that cannot be adequately explained.

Can there be a natural explanation? Possibly, though modern science is nowhere near having that answer. Least of all the existence of sprites. It is even a bit insulting for any scientific group to claim they have an answer.

If the universe is only half as big and half as old as science believes, that leaves billions of solar systems with as many planets in the universe existing for longer than the history of the Earth. For anyone to claim that in billions of billions the only form of intelligent life, or life at all, resides on our planet alone is the ultimate in arrogance. It is mathematically improbable, logically a lie, and considering the abundance of events that cannot be explained dumb.

Sprites might explain some questionable events over the years. But it is in no way an answer, nor definite. Still I’d expect the Government to explain what happened to JFK sooner than admit even 1 UFO in recorded history.

In the sky, It’s a bird. It’s a UFO. No it’s a candle.

Candles are wonderful items. They provide light in the dark, are decorations in homes, and integral to the connection some have with God in their religion. Candles have been around in one form or another since at least the Egyptians if not older. Everyone has at least one in their home right now.

And candles may just be the invention of Aliens.

Now I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure that while the history of candles may be lost to the depths of the past, I doubt that mystery is on par with the Pyramids. It’s highly doubtful that alien visitors left them for man to build technology upon. Of course I could be wrong.

It seems that this was what quite a few people in Grangemouth, Stirlingshire seemed to believe recently. Well almost. What happened was far more terrestrial.

It seems that there was a party and some of the party-goers decided to release some balloons. The balloons were attached to candles that were lit. The purpose of this is to grant the person a wish, making their dreams come to life. But of course this was not the dreams of over a dozen people looking into the night sky.

The police were called with citizenry in a panic that alien UFO’s were converging in preparation for an invasion, or at least observing the Earth.

So the net time you are in Scotland, enjoying a party with friends, you might want to call the police before trying to make your dreams come true.

From here to there in a few words - 3.30.2007.1

So what else has happened in the world as Paris Hilton get more air-time than could ever be justified. Well in India there was a woman that gave one of the strongest expressions of love that I think I’ve ever heard. It seems that the woman was engaged a short while before her fiancé fell down a well and died. That is a sad thing, but what was sweet was her commitment Prior to her betroved being buried the woman, with the blessing of his family, married the love of her life. That’s a statement. At first look I thought it was creepy, but in thinking about it I find it sweet. Now where is an example of something like that here at home?

Now for something completely different. UFO conspirators rejoice. Yes there has been confirmation from France that something is out there, and it visited here. Since 1954 France has held onto documented cases, some seen by thousands, which cannot be explained by an earthbound means. This is similar to the Project Bluebook files that were (and possibly continue to be) held by the United States Air Force. While many of the files released to the internet were explained, roughly 400 have not been. It just goes to prove the simple math I have long believed. There are just too many solar systems, galaxies and so on in the universe to believe we are the only things alive and with intelligence in it. It just smacks of the same logic that held the earth as flat or that our planet was the center of the universe. One day, if we don’t kill ourselves off [high probability], I’m sure that thinking will seem as absurd as the current consensus.

Following the pattern of jumps, The Shield will start its new season on Monday. I can’t wait. Vic Mackey, Mr. Michael Chiklis, is a unique character, both endearing for his loyalty and angering in his blatant corruption. With Mr. Forest Whitaker still in the cast, and causing no lack of problems for Mackey and his crew, sparks may be the least of things to fly.

And Shane, Mr. Walton Goggins, better watch his back. His murder of a teammate was brutal and wrong. I cannot see any of the dwindling Strike Team members forgiving this. I can see a vicious retaliation. Especially when you consider the fact that there are a few ‘innocents’ that are going to have a ton of bricks come down on their heads before the truth is known. [On a side note, imagine having to kill your best friend in real life. In a manner of speaking Mr. Goggins did exactly that. In real life he is very good long time friends with Mr. Kenneth Johnson who portrayed the conflicted Lem. The day they filmed the murder both men had just returned from the 2006 Super Bowl that Mr. Johnson invited Mr. Goggins to. That’s rough.]

Continuing to the next thing, the world of books. I know some must still read actual books, I do. For those who have read the actual Lord of the Rings Trilogy, perhaps good news. The son of JRR Tolkein has finished his father’s last book. From what I understand it’s not a continuation of the story, nor even in Middle Earth. Yet the themes of the 4 parts of the One Ring stories are maintained. [Yes 4 parts. The Hobbit starts it all. And no there isn’t a movie of it yet. And the movie will not be made by Mr. Peter Jackson. You have been warned.] This is something to pick up. I’ll read it shortly after it comes out and let you know what I think.

Oh, expect a review of 300. Late as it may be. Good movie, in parts, but a bit disappointing as well.

This is what I think, what do you think?

UFO arrivals on time at gate 7 - 1.4.2007.2

Here is something for the UFO conspiracists out there. Odd things happen even without the weekend. What I am speaking on is the report on the 1st that weather and not visitors from another planet were responsible for the reported sightings over O’Hare airport on November 7, 2006.

Now this sighting was not some group of beer drinking kids, or questionable individuals, but a group of United Airlines employees. This group included pilots and at least one supervisor. Not a group of individuals known for flights of fancy [yes another bad pun – I’m not a comedy writer you know].

Of course this sighting was called a ‘weather condition’ and is not being investigated. I’ve noticed that sightings are always called ‘weather conditions’ or infrequently ‘military aircraft’ – whether experimental or not. It’s just seems too convenient. Especially when otherwise credible individuals step up and mention the sighting.

I can’t say that this was incorrect. I do note that no follow up or investigation will be conducted. I am concerned that something seemed to be of concern to these individuals over a busy airport and there is no interest. Some things should not be casually laughed off, even if they appear to be odd. And this does qualify as odd.

For the record I will mention that I do believe we are not alone in the universe. Other beings exist. It is complete arrogance and statistically impossible for there not to be other lifeforms. It is equally arrogant and impossible that all those other beings are less intelligent or advanced than ourselves. Given these probabilities it is possible that UFO’s exist and do visit the world.

To further clarify what I think, there will be no government that will openly confirm or acknowledge the existence of other life in the universe. This is especially true of intelligent life. If it were similar to life on earth, then they have a belief of life (perhaps a religion). These beliefs may well be very different than our own. Even if similar they bring into question every concept of life and our intelligence and place in the universe.

If other beings exist, life on earth becomes chaotic. Our dreams of a future like Star Wars, or Star Trek, or any other expansion and domination of the universe go out the window. Our views of religion come into question. Our superior status over all life we know of ends. Human beings at this point cannot accept such an absolute change on the principles we have founded civilization on. Thus we will never hear about it.

I don’t know what happened at O’Hare. But I would like to know more than the usual and casual ‘weather condition’ answer. We have enough knowledge in the populace that a better answer can be given. And if some earthly means were at play, I’d like to be assured that it’s not a potential danger. You know, like a satellite breaking apart as it falls to earth. That happens constantly, but it’s nice to know that it’s not something that is a danger to watch out for.

So the UFO conspiracies can start on this. But don’t get too carried away. I still prefer my aliens in a video game or a movie theater.

This is what I think, what do you think?
