Black Entertainment USA - Letters to and from Presidential Candidates
In efforts to learn the actual positions of various Presidential candidates letters have been, and will continue to be, sent. They are posted here and at the VASS blog site. Remember "If you don't vote, if you don't ask, you can't be upset with what you get!"
I believe a person's character can be found in their answer to this question: If you could go back in time to the begining of Civilization with 3 books, which 3 would you chose?

As we approach the election for President in 2008, the deomocratic process of gaining support and primaries is heating up.
Already several potential candidates have mentioned their interest to seek their political parties support. Several are politicians that are media darings, or well known on a national level. Several are local, or regional, figures.
In each case these individuals maintain varying views on platforms that affect every American citizen, and to some degree immigrants both legal and illegal.
Yet, in my opinion, less information is known about the views, and in some cases the voting records, of these individuals. While the internet is a powerful tool in amassing the data that has been recorded, it does not explain how an individual feels on any one issue. The internet does not convey the overall outlook that any person may have (with the possible exception of blogs such as this one). Also of not is the fact that many may not be familiar enough with the internet to know where or how to search out data that may influence their desicion to support one individual or another.
There is also the fact that for a majority of the voting public, information and opinions are formed from the various televised soundbites found on news broadcasts whether they are local or on a 24 hour cable channel.
Considering the thought that many are gaining their insites on potential candidates from 30 second blurbs, editied and presented to match a political preference of whatever corporation may own the broadcast, this is unacceptable. Even the few debates that are held contain little real information, rather they are extended soundbites that are framed to capture the attention of selected target groups without actually defining exact parameters or plans.
I present as an example, the recent mid-term elections of 2006. There were many call for change by individuals of all parties and independants. I failed to notice even one that promised change and actually stated an exact plan for that change. There was emotion, I don't doubt it was sincere, but no actual plan. As many were elcted on this seeming platform, consituents no face efforts on many fronts that may not be what they had hoped for.
Given this disparity, and inceased importance of soundbites in place of actual statements, I felt it important to ask direct questions to the candidates, and request explicit answers to these questions. I have provided exact copies of these letter in my posts on Vass and more recently on this site. The multiple posts I hope will draw the attention of these individuals and compel a response. I feel the questions I have asked are important, not only to African Americans and Latino/Hispanic Americans, but to all Americans. The direct answer to these questions I feel is required in a world of diffused half-comments.
To that end I am providing this section of the site. While I will post any response to my letters, unaltered, on the various blogs I write to I feel that added attention is needed. I will create pages dedicated to each letter I have sent to each person seeking the Presidency. I will post and create a page for each response. I will not alter a word.
I ask that you help me in this endeavour. We deserve to have these questions answered. Those that would seek to be our President are obligated to give us these answers directly and not force us to sek out or infer the answers, I feel. If I am correct, even partially, I ask you to spead the word about this section. Repost my letters from my blogs, bookmark this section of the site, tell others of its existence, and send your own letters demanding a response.
This is not about vanity, or self-importance. The ability to become the most important leader of the world, to help shape the world we and our children will live in, is beyond ego. We should expect no less of our leaders, especially those that would hold our highest office.
I thank you for reading this, and any support you can provide me.
Sincerely,
Michael Vass
